What a monthly visit covers

  • Skim the surface and empty the skimmer and pump baskets
  • Brush the walls, steps and waterline, and vacuum where needed
  • Test the water and balance it
  • Check the filter and circulation are running
  • Leave a note of what was done

The price per visit is agreed before we start. You know the service price and how chemicals are charged before we book anything.

Skimming the surface

Leaves and insects left on the surface eventually sink and start to break down. Taking them off first keeps the rest of the visit, and the water, cleaner.

Emptying the skimmer and pump baskets

Full baskets slow the flow of water to the filter. Emptying them keeps the water moving, which helps the chlorine and the filter do their job.

Brushing the walls, steps and waterline

Algae and grime start as a thin film where the water moves least: corners, steps and the waterline. Brushing breaks it up before it can take hold.

Vacuuming where needed

Whatever settles on the floor uses up chlorine and can cloud the water. We vacuum whenever there’s debris to remove.

Testing and balancing the water

The test tells us what the water needs. Balanced water lets the chlorine work properly and is kinder to the pool’s surfaces and equipment.

Checking the filter and circulation

If the filter is clogged or the pump isn’t running properly, problems build quickly. We check both are working and tell you if something needs attention.

Leaving a note

You get a note of what was done, including anything we noticed, so you always know what your pool has had.

Water testing explained

The Spin Touch photometer

We test with a Spin Touch photometer. It reads several values from one small water sample, which gives a consistent picture from one visit to the next. We use the results to balance the water, and the note we leave tells you what was done.

The readings

  • pH. How acidic or basic the water is. It affects how well the chlorine works.
  • Free chlorine. The chlorine available to keep the water clean.
  • Total alkalinity. Helps hold the pH steady, so it doesn’t swing from day to day.
  • Stabiliser (cyanuric acid). Protects chlorine from being broken down by sunlight, which matters under the Perth sun.
  • Total hardness. The dissolved hardness minerals in the water, which relate to scale and wear on surfaces and equipment.
  • Salt, where relevant. For salt-chlorinated pools, the salt level the chlorinator needs to make chlorine.

Total hardness, not calcium hardness

The photometer’s hardness reading is total hardness, not calcium hardness, and that is how we label it. Total hardness measures all the hardness minerals in the water together, so it isn’t directly comparable with a reading from a different kind of test.

Between monthly visits: what you can do

A few minutes of housekeeping between visits helps. If your pool gets heavy use or collects a lot of leaves, an extra one-off clean can help too.

  • Skim the surface when leaves or insects collect on it.
  • Empty the skimmer basket if it’s filling up, so water keeps flowing.
  • Keep debris out where you can: garden waste, grass clippings, sand and toys.
  • Run the filter as normal, on its usual settings.
  • Watch for changes. If the water turns cloudy or the flow from the returns looks weak, tell us.

Please don’t add chemicals between visits. Adding products without a test can throw the water out of balance and makes the next visit harder to read. If you’re worried about the water, call us and we’ll talk it through.

When a monthly visit isn’t enough

Our regular service is one visit a month, from $99 per visit incl. GST, plus chemicals as quoted. That makes regular care from $99 a month, plus chemicals.

Some pools need more attention at certain times: after a big storm, before a party, when the trees are dropping a lot of leaves or after a stretch of heavy use. For those times you can book a one-off clean, from $139 incl. GST, plus chemicals as quoted. See pool cleaning prices for all our prices.

If your pool has already turned green or cloudy, it needs more than a routine visit. See green pool cleaning.

Salt-chlorinated pools

Salt-chlorinated pools get the same monthly visit. We also test the salt level and check the chlorinator display.

If the chlorinator doesn’t seem to be keeping up, we’ll tell you. Repairs to the chlorinator, and any electrical work, go to a qualified trade.

How chemicals are charged

Chemicals are charged on top of the service price, as quoted. We test the water first, and your quote lists what your pool needs and what each item costs. If your pool needs extra treatment or a return visit, we’ll discuss the cost with you before going ahead.

What isn’t included

Repairs aren’t part of a visit (see the repairs question below). Chemicals are extra, as quoted.

Common questions

How often should a pool be serviced in Perth?

It depends on the pool, how it’s used and how many leaves it collects. Our regular service is one visit a month. Pools with heavy use or lots of leaves may need extra attention in between, and you can book that as a one-off clean, from $139 incl. GST, plus chemicals as quoted.

What does a pool service include?

Everything in the list under what a monthly visit covers: cleaning, a water test and balance, an equipment check and a note of what was done.

Are chemicals included?

No. They’re extra and itemised. See how chemicals are charged.

What does total hardness mean?

It’s a measure of all the hardness minerals dissolved in the water, which relate to scale and wear on surfaces. The reading we take is total hardness, not calcium hardness, so that is how we label it.

Do you service salt pools?

Yes. Salt pools get the same visit, and we also test the salt level and check the chlorinator display.

What can I do between visits?

Skim off leaves, empty the skimmer basket, keep debris out, run the filter as normal and tell us if the water turns cloudy or the flow looks weak. Please leave the chemicals to us.

Do you service pools in my suburb?

We cover Perth north of the river, roughly 20 km from the city. See the service areas page, or type your suburb into the quote form to check.

Do you do repairs?

No. Our servicing doesn’t include repairs. If we spot a fault, we’ll explain what needs attention; electrical, gas and other specialist work go to the right qualified trade.
